2013 Downtown Holiday Planter Decorating

Thanks to Abby Walden, Public Works Waste and Recycling Department, for coordinating this event. SSI and UIS student organization S.A.G.E. are one of many groups decorating the downtown planters for the holidays.

20131123_113339SSI and S.A.G.E. planned their designs to include white pines, aluminum cans, leftover green scraps from the Native Plant Society’s planter and members’ holiday and solar powered lawn lights. The message? Recycle and reuse.20131123_120123I hope people will venture downtown to see the beautiful arrangements before the weather alters their original glory.

Thanks to Anne Logue, Melody LaMar and Katelynn Essig for braving the below freezing weather to decorate the SSI and S.A.G.E. planters. The baby white pines will be replanted along one of Springfield’s bike trails.
